Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify, and track tags attached to assets.
When triggered by an electromagnetic interrogation pulse from a nearby RFID reader device, the tag transmits digital data, usually an identifying inventory number, back to the reader.
Barcodes are applied to products as a means of quick identification.
They are used in retail stores as part of the purchasing process, in warehouses to track inventory, and on invoices to assist in accounting, among many other uses.
